A straight forward question. Isn’t it? But first what does fellowship mean? According to the free dictionary, online, fellowship is defined as ”The companionship of individuals in a congenial atmosphere and on equal terms.” Many-a-times as people , we take this issue of fellowship lightly. We do whatever we want to do, anyhow we want to do it, with whomever we want to do it with. But I believe when we talk of spirituality, great sensitivity and selectivity ought to be exercised in such issues.
It has been said in Hebrews 10:25, ‘Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing.’
You can clearly see that God honors fellowship and is encouraging us to continuously meet. In other words He is saying, it is good to keep meeting, don’t stop it!
The scripture continues by saying; ‘but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the day approaching. What a word. I bet some can agree with me that sometimes being alone can be so suffocating that even prayer becomes less and less and at times it can be hard to pray and encourage oneself. So, this is where this scripture comes in. In meeting and fellowship, you are sure to get some encouragement. Other than just the encouragement, I also believe that there is some kind of anointing that is released in every single fellowship. But we must bear in mind that these words were however referred to BRETHREN!
Now back to my question, who are you fellowshipping with? I wish you can take a moment to reflect on the types and kind of fellowships you have, but before that, let’s look at this example in Luke 1:38-42; ’38
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. 39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! This is where Mary went to Zachariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.
The Bible says when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.A double WOW. What was inside of Mary was able to influence what was in Elizabeth such that she was filled with the Holy Spirit. Now do your fellowships stir up what is inside of you jump? Fellowship should be able to influence exchange. Have you ever had a moment or moments where you are with one of the brethren and somehow the conversation tends to be about God and it goes on and on and next thing you check the clock and you like; ‘I think we better stop here, otherwise we wont stop.’
That’s fellowship which stirs up the gift inside of you. Fellowship should be able to make you wake up to the situation and realize who you are and your potential!
With Love, TGM.
